HOME PREP BUILDER
Build your prep checklist
A calm, practical checklist for your home — start from your ZIP to auto-load its FEMA hazards, or pick your own. Everything runs on your device; nothing is sent or stored.
Your prep checklist
For your home (single-family house)
- Know how to shut off your gas, water, and electricity — and keep any tools needed nearby.
- Check that smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms work; test them twice a year.
- Photograph each room and keep the inventory off-site (cloud) for any insurance claim.
Wildfire
- Create defensible space: clear brush and flammable material 5–30 ft from the home.
- Harden the house: ember-resistant vents, non-combustible roofing, screened gutters.
- Have a go-bag and a family evacuation plan you've actually practiced.
Flooding
- Know your flood zone and elevation; keep valuables and utilities above likely water levels.
- Consider flood barriers, sump pumps, and backflow valves.
- Keep digital copies of documents and an emergency kit ready.
Emergency kit (all hazards)
- Water — one gallon per person per day, at least a 3-day supply.
- Non-perishable food for at least 3 days, plus a manual can opener.
- Battery or hand-crank radio (NOAA weather radio if you can).
- Flashlights and spare batteries.
- First-aid kit and a 7-day supply of any medications.
- Phone chargers and a backup battery.
- Copies of key documents (ID, insurance, deed/lease) in a waterproof bag.
- Some cash in small bills.
