HOME PREP BUILDER

Build your prep checklist

A calm, practical checklist for your home — start from your ZIP to auto-load its FEMA hazards, or pick your own. Everything runs on your device; nothing is sent or stored.

2 · Which hazards matter where you live?
3 · Your home

Your prep checklist

For your home (single-family house)

  • Know how to shut off your gas, water, and electricity — and keep any tools needed nearby.
  • Check that smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms work; test them twice a year.
  • Photograph each room and keep the inventory off-site (cloud) for any insurance claim.

Wildfire

  • Create defensible space: clear brush and flammable material 5–30 ft from the home.
  • Harden the house: ember-resistant vents, non-combustible roofing, screened gutters.
  • Have a go-bag and a family evacuation plan you've actually practiced.

Flooding

  • Know your flood zone and elevation; keep valuables and utilities above likely water levels.
  • Consider flood barriers, sump pumps, and backflow valves.
  • Keep digital copies of documents and an emergency kit ready.

Emergency kit (all hazards)

  • Water — one gallon per person per day, at least a 3-day supply.
  • Non-perishable food for at least 3 days, plus a manual can opener.
  • Battery or hand-crank radio (NOAA weather radio if you can).
  • Flashlights and spare batteries.
  • First-aid kit and a 7-day supply of any medications.
  • Phone chargers and a backup battery.
  • Copies of key documents (ID, insurance, deed/lease) in a waterproof bag.
  • Some cash in small bills.
